Ocean Explorer Maps
Nigel Sitwell Founder of Ocean explorer Maps is a British writer and editor specialising in travel and natural history.
As a traveller, Nigel has visited nearly 100 countries in the course of leading a variety of tours and expedition cruises. He has worked as Expedition Leader on small ships such as the Explorer (which sadly sank in 2007), Sea Cloud, Star Flyer, Caledonian Star (now renamed the National Geographic Endeavour), and Alla Tarasova, as well as larger vessels such as the Ocean Princess and Marco Polo.
These cruises took him to the Mediterranean, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, as well as to the Arctic and Antarctica. He has led some 50 cruises to Antarctica and almost as many to the Galapagos Islands.
He was awarded the Order of the Golden Ark by HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands for services to wildlife conservation, and received an Arbor Day Award (USA) for an article on acid rain in Science Digest magazine.
Nigel Sitwell recently retired from a ten-year term as Chairman of Britain’s Galapagos Conservation Trust.
